Emily & Joe

JULY 22 2023

Joe OrrThe Groom

The best things in life are puzzles, and Emily’s my perfect fit. I’m saving the rest for the vows, you guys aren’t getting it all for free!

Emily RichwoodThe Bride

The best things in life are potatoes (scalloped, garlic mashed, I don’t discriminate). But the second best thing is love and I’ve found the love of my life in Joe.

We areGetting Married

I was taught that if we’re born with love, then life is about choosing the right place to put it. People talk about that a lot, it feeling right. “When it feels right, it’s easy.” But I’m not sure that’s true. It takes strength to know what’s right. And love isn’t something that weak people do. Being a romantic takes a hell of a lot of hope. I think what they mean is… when you find somebody you love, it feels like hope.

Our love story

It’s a match!

Joe and Emily matched on an online dating app and the banter back and forth was top notch. Joe asked Emily on a date and the rest is history. Joe did catfish Emily (all of his online profile photos displayed a man with short hair, but Joe was experimenting with a shoulder-length bob at the time). He was handsome all the same. One date was quickly followed by another then another. Here is the first picture Joe and Emily took together, on an early ice skating date.

Home Sweet Home

The couple moved into their first little (extremely little) apartment, walking distance from downtown Campbell near San Jose. Despite having virtually no storage and the bathroom door clearing the toilet by mere millimeters upon opening, it will always be a special place they first called home. Joe even officially became the adoptive dad to Emily’s cat, Pippa.

She said Yes!

Over four and a half years after first meeting, Joe proposed to Emily in their hammock at the park near their apartment. They had set up that hammock many times before throughout the years- at that same park when they were first dating, in Joe’s old backyard, in Santa Cruz, and even twice in front of El Capitan- and it was here where Joe would ask Emily to be his wife.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal/cocktail attire, but feel free to take off your shoes in the sand. Bring sunglasses, and double-check the weather before you head over as it is an outdoor beach ceremony!

Are kids welcome?

While we absolutely love your little ones, our wedding is generally an adults-only event (with the exception of one or two kids we are close with). We want everyone to be able to relax and let loose!

NEW VENUE ALERT

There have been some… developments.

Due to challenges over the past week with our previous venue, we are now hosting our wedding at The Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe.
The new ceremony start time is 4:30, but plan to arrive early to be safe. The ceremony will take place on the beach in front of the restaurant (bring sunglasses!). They have complimentary valet parking and it is a central location easy to uber or lyft to and from.

If you are staying at the Tahoe Ridge Resort: you can still stay there, no problem! We have stayed multiple times and always had a positive experience.
Please note: there is construction happening there (as we found out just last week!)
The Riva Grill is a 20 minute drive from the Ridge so please plan accordingly. The Ridge has told us they will refund any guest who would like to go to a different hotel, but most of you would have likely booked with refundable rates anyway.
Below is a list of other hotels in the area that are a little bit closer to the venue if you would like to switch (there are plenty more in the area not included):

We are sorry for the last minute change and apologize if this negatively impacts anyone’s plans, but we just felt in our gut it was the right thing to do to go elsewhere.
